<b>First Way is in great need of ONESIES right now!</b> We need <u>more baby clothes in general</u>. Have your little ones outgrown theirs? Or do you have a few extra dollars, when you're out shopping, to pick up a few?<br />
<br />
We put onesies in the layettes for our new mothers when they have their babies, to help welcome them into the world. They don't have to be cute like the pictures I put here, just small and snuggly. They can be plain white as long as they don't have stains. We don't give stained clothes to our clients.<br />

<b>We also need volunteers. </b></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'd like to introduce some changes I think you'll (Hopefully!) like.<b> The first is our change to a new web-site- </b><br />
<br />
<b>Newly designed and optimized for mobile. Try it on your smartphone. It actually looks a lot like an app on the new phones. </b></div>
<a href="http://1st-way.org/">1st-way.org</a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>I'm also including here my interview done with our director Terry</b>, which is being published by halves in this month's newsletter and next month, regarding my new president position with 1st Way. Terry's still director of the center itself, but I'm handling a lot of other admin responsibilities. My new position entails a great deal more responsibility and I am honored and really excited about the challenge!</div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in; text-decoration: none;">
<b>Why did you
choose to volunteer here rather than working for another group?</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">
I had just become Catholic and had a
dramatic conversion. I wanted to devote my life to God, but I didn't
really know what He wanted from me. I was praying a lot, and asking
God what way He most wanted me to serve Him. I had no idea what that
would look like. So, I said, “God, I will do the next thing I am
asked to do.” So, someone asked me if I wanted to volunteer at 1st
Way. I didn't think I'd be any good at it. Still, I felt God wanted
me to do it, so I did. Volunteer counseling wasn't the best fit for
me but social media development and helping with other aspects of
First Way work was.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<b>What have you enjoyed most about
volunteering for first way and serving on the board?</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">
1st Way has become an
integral part of me and who I am. I can say with complete conviction
that helping women find ways to give birth rather than abort is the
right thing to do and that is critical to our future as a national
community. I have a fire inside me now and it burns with the desire
to help human life be valued and protected. I love what I do. I'm
filled with joy to have found an apostolate that fits well with my
principles and abilities.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<b>What is your vision for 1</b><b>st</b><b>
Way over the next year? </b>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">
I would like to discover ways to best
utilize the vast talents of our board members and find the assistance
we need to be more effective in fund-raising and obtaining a mobile
pregnancy clinic. A mobile pregnancy unit will bring us to the women
who need us, to make free ultrasound as close as her front door or a
shopping center. The mobile unit will help us help more women in more
ways.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<b>What have you learned over the past
year? </b>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">
When I started volunteering, I knew
almost nothing. I actually thought life in the first trimester was
just a bunch of tissue or cells! The more I learned about the truth
of biological development, abortion procedures, and Planned
Parenthood's dishonest tactics, the more I grew to become a warrior
for the cause of pro-life. I became an avid researcher and reader and
a strong pro-life apologist. I attended the Right to Life Conference
in Portland. I've participated in several marches and pro-life
protests. Most of all, I know with all my heart I'm doing what God
wants me to do. Serving on the board has been fun because of working
creatively with people who have good ideas, to develop plans that can
take 1st Way's mission further. I have great respect and
love for my fellow board members and look forward to working with the
1st Way Organization to expand our vision further to serve
more women in need.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<b>I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve! </b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Love,</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

She spoke at our Fundraiser at River's Edge this summer and she brought her children, ages 1 and 2. Graciously, she allowed us to share her letter and excerpts from it, summing up how 1st Way's approach to helping women definitely does not end when the baby is born. We sometimes maintain long-term relationships with women who come to us for other needs and support after birth.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>When I volunteered for 1st Way of Eugene, I found it to be a mind-expanding and heart-expanding experience.</b><br />
<br />
I didn't know that much about pregnancy or pro-life issues. I remember the day Terry hired me, she stacked my arms up with brochures and articles and said, "Take this home and read this!" Of course, she didn't mean to read it all at once. She only wanted me to have the resources I needed to counsel women who had questions, and that learning still continues to this day.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Part of my training was simply to answer questions- never to give unsolicited education or information.</b> Working there, I was happy to see that fellow counselors were warm and positive and just trying to find ways to be helpful. No family support? Financial struggles? Healthcare concerns? How can we connect women to the resources they need? How can we be there for her when she is scared and upset and just wants someone to talk to? How can we help make her life a little better?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Being a crisis pregnancy counselor at 1st Way is about being an educator when women have questions. Working for 1st Way was also heart-expanding for me. </b> I saw some happy women who realized it was possible to find resources they needed to carry their babies to term. I loved putting together layettes for new mothers and getting to know people.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Being a volunteer at 1st Way is only a three hour commitment per week and all training is provided.</b> I knew nothing when I started and now I can't seem to learn enough information. It's really satisfying to know that you are serving the needs of pregnant women and their unborn babies. Ultimately, you don't know the decision she will make when she walks out the door. <b>But, you will know that you told her the truth and showed her it is possible to find life-affirming ways to cope with unplanned pregnancy.</b></div>

Terry has been my inspiration as long as I've worked with helping 1st Way. She is a woman of action and a woman of caring. She puts women first in all things and her attitude and approach permeate 1st Way on every level.</div>
<div style="font-style: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-style: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">
A leader sets a tone for everyone. Because Terry sincerely cares about women, she expects that same attitude of non-judgment and compassion from her staff. She is correct that we meet mothers where they are, where they need. We give them the information they ask for. We help women find solutions to difficult social, family, medical and financial problems. We try to help improve the life of the women who come to us, so that they will be able to be parents for their children. We offer baby and toddler clothes, diapers and other supplies. <b>1st Way is truly a women's center, where women feel heard and appreciated.</b></div>

<b>Not everyone knows about our staff at First Way, Eugene. </b><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In addition to our director, Terry Ianora, we have a medical director, Suzanne Temple, M.D., and four registered nurses who are certified in ultrasound. We have eighteen other volunteers who meet with women, offer pregnancy tests and help each woman in her unique situation.<br />
<br />
We also have office staff who volunteer to come in with various tasks, and girls from <a href="http://www.marisths.org/" target="_blank">Marist High School</a> come in to make layettes for women who come to our center, for after they deliver. In addition to that, volunteers come in to clean and to launder donated baby clothes.</div>
<br />
First Way also has twelve board members. It truly takes a dedicated community such as ours to help women give their unborn children a chance at life. It also takes regular donations of diapers, bottled water and baby clothing and money.We are always looking for more volunteers, also. There is always something to do! Give us a call at <b>541.687.8651</b> if you are interested in volunteering or making a donation.<br />
<br />
<b>Coming up soon-</b> Interviews with volunteers, including our nurses! <b>1st Way needs volunteers! </b><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Volunteers at first way can counsel pregnant women, do data entry, put together layettes and many other things! The minimum commitment for a pregnancy counselor is only three hours a week. For other jobs, no ongoing commitment is required.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1st Way especially needs people who do good work on computers and who can do data entry. We have many projects that we need help with, including mailing list merging (using Excel). If you have a talent and would like to come by and help us one day, we'd love to have you come by!</div>
<br />
1st Way especially invites bilingual women and younger women to volunteer, although any age is welcomed and you do not have to be bilingual to apply.<br />
<br />
Just give us a call at (541) 687-8651 or email us at firstwayeugene@gmail.com<br />
<br />
We'll be happy just to let you know more about us to help you get a sense of whether you'd like to join our team.<br />

<b>Just a few announcements!</b><br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: #cc0000;">1st Way always needs diapers,</span> especially size 4 and 5, and especially now when we are just about out. </b>When we provide diapers for poor women who have no other means to get them, we're doing something very special. These women become comfortable with 1st Way and get to know us as a safe and welcoming place. If they have another unplanned pregnancy, they are more likely to talk to us about their concerns and we are more likely to be of influence.<br />
<br />
Offering diapers does a lot more than help moms with a day-to-day necessity for their babies. <b>Offering diapers is often the beginning of a long-term relationship of our nurturing new mothers and any future children they may consider aborting.</b><br />
<br />
<a href="http://oregon2014.org/" target="_blank"><b>Petition- </b></a><br />
Outside the masses this weekend at St. Mary's, petitions were available to sign for <b>no taxpayer funding for abortion. </b>Why is this a concern?<br />
<br />
<b>Nearly half of abortions are taxpayer funded- approximately 1.75 million dollars a year.</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Oregon is one of only 13 states to <b>require taxpayers to fund other people’s abortions</b>, without restrictions, by court order.<br />
<br />
Do you want your tax money going for this? Do you want to pay for abortions? This is your chance to do something about it! <br />

But, this is often an insular and non-evangelical practice. <a href="http://www.lifenews.com/2013/08/11/hey-pro-lifers-to-change-hearts-and-minds-on-abortion-quit-preaching-to-the-choir/" target="_blank">This article</a> describes the types of women who REALLY need to hear our message, and how we can help them hear our message, so we don't just circulate the same news among ourselves, "liking" them all day to nobody else's benefit.<br />
<br />
<b>There are so many "little" things you can do that mean a lot. Find what suits your style and resources. And always pray a lot!</b><br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: #cc0000;">1st Way appreciates your prayers, support, donations and love. Thanks for joining with us to protect the unborn.</span></b><br />

First Way's 40th Anniversary Celebration Fundraiser, this past Sunday afternoon at <a href="http://www.riversedgeevents.com/" target="_blank">River's Edge Events</a>, was a wonderful experience for over 160 guests who attended. The music was beautiful. A string trio opened and was followed by The <a href="http://www.ruralite.org/archive/2002/03/C-17%20PP%204-5%20MARCH_2002.pdf" target="_blank">Poodle Creek Pickers</a>, which played bluegrass music. His eminence, Archbishop Alexander Sample, said our Invocation.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.1stwaylifecenter.com/message-from-founder/" target="_blank">Denise Cocciolone</a>, founder of 1st Way's parent organization, <a href="http://www.nationallifecenter.com/" target="_blank">The National Life Cente</a>r, gave a powerful speech. Our director, Terry Ianora, talked about 1st Way's forty year history and about our hopeful future, bringing a mobile pregnancy clinic right to the places we are most likely to reach women- shopping centers, across from schools, abortion clinics and public parks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Next, Angela Fellon, one of 1st Way's clients, told her story about how when she was feeling pressured into abortion, we at 1st Way became her friends, allies in helping her find all the resources and support she needed to keep her child. We continue to help her with things she needs, such as clothing. toys and diapers. Happy today with two children now, Angela glowed as she talked with gratitude to 1st Way for helping her make the best decision of her life- to give birth to her baby.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Angela's talk was followed by<a href="http://www.rickdancer.com/" target="_blank"> Rick Dancer</a>, a journalist, politician and a twenty year anchor for <a href="http://www.kezi.com/" target="_blank">KEZI</a>
television in Eugene. Rick gave a rousing talk and generated great enthusiasm from the crowd with both his humor and poignant stories. Pastor Steve Miller of <a href="http://www.newsongcf.com/" target="_blank">Newsong Church</a> (and longtime board member of 1st Way) gave our closing prayer. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We're a few steps closer to getting our mobile pregnancy unit, thanks be to God. We're so thankful for all who attended, volunteered and took part in making our event such a great success. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #cc0000;"><b>1st Way's fundraiser this coming weekend is because we're trying to get a mobile unit.</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #cc0000;"><b><i><span style="color: black;">(The image to the left is a mobile unit that is similar to the type 1st Way wants, only ours will have a different style and wrap.)</span></i> </b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What's that all about? <b>A mobile clinic</b> can take us to where women are instead of just having women come to us. We will show up at convenient places and bring them help and information they need.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Imagine you are a young girl worried you might be pregnant, so you pull into Walmart to buy a pregnancy test. As soon as you park, you see a van that advertised not only free pregnancy tests, but free ultrasounds and counseling, too. So, you decide to check it out.<br />
<br />
Inside, you are greeted by a friendly counselor who offers you some cool water or hot tea. You can tell right away that you are surrounded
by non-judgmental support and caring about you as a person as well as
for your child, and counselors will try to do anything possible to help
solve problems that may stand in the way of your ability to give birth
to your child.<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Imagine stepping into a van and being able to see your baby's heart beat within your first hour's visit. How will this influence the way you feel about the life growing inside you? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>1st Way</b> intends to take our van all over Eugene, parking in different neighborhoods, office complexes, shopping centers and parks. We'll also park across from Planned Parenthood on occasion.<br />

<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
A layette is a bag with special supplies that women take to the hospital as soon as they go into labor. 1st Way gives layettes to new mothers who visited us when they were not sure if they were pregnant<b> </b>and who decided afterward to give birth to their babies.<b> </b>This is 1st Way's special way to welcome their newborn to the world. <b>What do we put in the layettes? </b></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/DrMarbella/layetteroom1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="269" src="http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/DrMarbella/layetteroom1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Layettes usually have the same sorts of things, if we have them in stock at any given time. As seen above, we try to include a quilt and a receiving blanket. We get some really nice blankets! The boxes on the bottom shelf contain diapers.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
We include newborn diapers and wipes and little containers of baby powder and lotion. Often, we don't have baby powder and lotion. These items can be picked up for $1 each at stores like Walmart in the "travel" section. <b>We always welcome those donations!</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b> </b><a href="http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/DrMarbella/layetteroom4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" src="http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/DrMarbella/layetteroom4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Take a look at the picture above. What you see here on the shelves are blankets. In the baskets and boxes are things like diapers, wipes, baby hats and booties. When we have baby hats and booties donated, they also go in the layettes. <b>These are also great donations! (hint, hint!)</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/DrMarbella/layettroom3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" src="http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/DrMarbella/layettroom3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
In addition, layettes contain several cute baby outfits. Above, you see mostly clothes for newborn girls. Layettes contain 1-2 onesies, casual outfits and a dressy outfits. The clothes are arranged by gender and type- girls clothes, clothes for either gender, and boys clothes. This is one part I really loved as a volunteer- picking out the best outfits! Also, girls from Marist High School come in to make layettes sometimes and they have a lot of fun. It's also a good way to prepare girls for one day being mothers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
To top it all off, we always include two small stuffed toys for baby. Beanie babies are especially popular, or any little toy a baby can hold, like a rattle. When we're done, we cover the bag in gift wrap paper and tie them with blue or pink ribbons.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Then, they are all ready to gift to our mothers-to-be about two months before their delivery date! </b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="color: #cc0000;">Many thanks to the many people who donated all you see in this room.</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
1st Way's first sponsored race was a great success!<br />
<br />
New T-shirts were designed for the Aquafina Butte to Butte race, in pink and blue, all with the 1st Way logo. The runners stood out and drew attention to the fact that they were running for the lives of unborn babies.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Our first running team had four runners and two walkers, all of whom completed the 5K race! Runners ran to represent many causes and it was good to see 1st Way well represented by such a dedicated team on the beautiful 4th of July day!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We appreciate those who sponsored this year's race. More sponsors are needed next time around, so please be thinking about pledging to support our runners next year. </div>

I will never forget hearing Abby Johnson (former Planned Parenthood director turned pro-life advocate) talking about the most common thing she heard women say on their way to the abortion room. Sometimes (but not always) confused and on sedative drugs they muttered, <span style="color: #cc0000;"><b>"Will my baby feel pain?"</b></span><br />
<br />
These women aren't asking about their fetus or their mass of cells. <b>They are referring to a baby. They also care about the well-being of their baby. </b><br />
<br />
Of course, clinic workers were quick to dismiss the question by saying there was no baby to feel pain, <b>more recent research is showing something different:</b><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://www.lifenews.com/2013/05/23/expert-tells-congress-unborn-babies-can-feel-pain-starting-at-8-weeks/" target="_blank">Expert Tells Congress Unborn Babies Can Feel Pain Starting at 8 Weeks</a></span><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.neuro.utah.edu/people/faculty/condic.html">"Maureen Condic</a>,
Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Neurobiology and Anatomy at the
University of Utah and obtained her Ph.D. from University of California,
Berkeley. She is a widely published scientist whose works have appeared
in a wide variety of peer-reviewed journals."<br />
<br />
<b>A summary of her testimony-</b><br />
<ol>
<li>The overall organization of the nervous system is established by four weeks</li>
<li>The neural circuitry responsible for the most primitive response to
pain, the spinal reflex, is in place by 8 weeks of development,</li>
<li>To experience pain, a noxious stimulus must be detected. The neural
structures necessary to detect noxious stimuli are in place by 8-10
weeks of human development. </li>
</ol>
<a href="http://judiciary.house.gov/hearings/113th/05232013/Condic%2005232013.pdf" target="_blank">Dr Condic's Full Testimony </a><br />
<br />
Dr. Condic presented new evidence that had not been considered yet. The older standard of when a baby was able to feel pain was always set at 20 weeks. <br />
<br />
While no neurologist questions that a pre-born infant can feel pain at 20 weeks, lawmakers are still trying to get a ban on abortions after 20 weeks, and their efforts are encountering great opposition. The oddest part of it is that after 20 weeks, most people don't realize how barbaric the procedures are that are used.<b> Just as in earlier abortions</b> that dismember the unborn child, after twenty weeks, limbs are twisted off one by one before the skull is crushed- <b>on a conscious baby with no anesthetic.</b><br />
<br />
So, people know a baby will feel pain and be horribly tortured and they still want that to be a legal "right" for a mother to have?<b> What are people thinking?</b> Articles I have read from pro-choice advocates assert that very few abortions are done at 20 weeks and that laws like this are just stepping-stones to ending abortion.<br />
<br />
In other words, it is more important to protect a woman's "right" to end the life of a human being growing inside her than it is to save even one infant from a torturous death by dismemberment.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-size: large;"><b>If the most common question a woman asks before having an abortion is, "Will my baby feel pain," perhaps one of the most important conversations we need to be having with her is about how, "Yes, your baby will feel pain."</b></span><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.doctorsonfetalpain.com/" target="_blank">Doctors on Fetal Pain.com</a><br />
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="color: #274e13;">Article Appendix-</span> </b></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Facts and Statistics </b></span><br />
<br />
<b>Prevalence </b><br />
<br />
<b>As for how often abortions after 20 weeks are happening?</b> Check
the Guttmacher Institute. They haven't even been keeping track of it
since 2006. (See their most recent 2011 summary sheet with their pie
graph of their last (2006) research done <a href="http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html">http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html</a> ). The last time the CDC did any research was 2009. <a href="http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss6108a1.htm?s_cid=ss6108a1_w">http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss6108a1.htm?s_cid=ss6108a1_w</a> .<br />
Both are showing the rate at between 1%-2% of total abortions.<br />
<br />
So what's going on? Why four years with no research done at all? No one wants to report on this, that's what's going on.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>But, go state by state and you can see for yourself-</b><br />
<b>Example- five years ago- (again- nothing current is available- Nobody wants to look at this.)</b><br />
<h2>
<span style="color: #cc0000;"><b>Oregon- 4.4% after 18 weeks (1.71% 21 wks + ) </b></span></h2>
<h2>
<span style="color: #cc0000;"><b>(More than<span style="color: #20124d;"> 183</span> potentially viable, definitely pain-capable infants dismembered limb from limb)</b></span></h2>
<span style="color: #cc0000;"><b>Those at 20 weeks not counted above- total: 18 weeks + is <span style="font-size: large;">475</span></b></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000;"><b><span style="font-size: large;"> </span> </b></span><br />
<a href="http://www.abort73.com/abortion_facts/states/oregon/">http://www.abort73.com/abortion_facts/states/oregon/</a><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #20124d;"><b>Compare to- </b></span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d;"><b>New York- 2.6% 18-20 weeks; 2.3% 21 + weeks</b></span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d;"><b>(total- 5879 total infants)</b></span><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.abort73.com/abortion_facts/states/new_york/">http://www.abort73.com/abortion_facts/states/new_york/</a><br />
<br />
<b>Oh, it's happening a lot. <span style="color: #cc0000;">There are many, many Gosnells out there.</span> They have to be, with statistics like this. What else do the doctors do when the baby is accidentally born alive ? (which happens often after 20 weeks.)</b><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="color: #cc0000;">Abortion hurts. Let them know.</span></b></span><br />
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: #cc0000;"> </span></span></b><br />
<b>Viability-</b><br />
What percent can live outside the womb?<br />
<br />
The
scientific definition of viability is whether 50% or more can survive.
Therefore, 25 weeks is most often given as the time an infant is viable.
<b>The truth is that infants survive much younger than that, just at a
lower percentage. </b><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-size: large;"><b>Although no infants have survived at 20 weeks, at 21 weeks several anecdotal cases have survived and at 22 weeks, the rate of survival ranges from 10-35%.</b></span><br />
<br />
<table border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="width: 425px;"><tbody>
<tr><td><b>Length of Pregnancy</b></td> <td><b>Likelihood of Survival (average)</b></td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>23 weeks</td> <td>17% </td> </tr>
<tr> <td>24 weeks</td> <td>39%</td> </tr>
<tr> <td>25 weeks</td> <td>50%</td> </tr>
<tr> <td>26 weeks</td> <td>80%</td> </tr>
<tr> <td>27 weeks</td> <td>90%</td> </tr>
<tr> <td>28-31 weeks</td> <td>90-95%</td> </tr>
<tr> <td>32-33 weeks</td> <td>95%</td> </tr>
<tr> <td>34+ weeks</td> <td>Almost as likely as a full-term baby</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />

<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: #cc0000;">Way before 20 weeks, babies hurt. New expert testimony shows babies hurt as early as 8 weeks. </span></span></b><br />

<b>Let's bash some stereotypes!</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Stereotypes tend to stop people from thinking for themselves. When a pro-life person is portrayed in a certain stereotyped way (such as only right wing, conservative Christian) people loyal to other religions and political parties often think to themselves, "I don't want to be like THOSE people!" From that point forward, most people don't consider the idea of really looking into the issue for themselves. Some make their entire decision about whether to be pro-life or pro-choice based on how they perceive their identity in relation to a religion or political party. This is very sad. </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The best case for diversity in the pro-life movement can be seen by examining the millennial
generation. They are the most ethnically diverse generation we have ever
seen in America. Most millenials are not religious, and 1/4 are not affiliated with any religion;" 45% identify with "independent" instead of as democrats or republicans and yet <b>the a majority of </b><b><b>millennials </b>believe abortion is morally wrong and 65 percent of Millenials feel that "pro-life" describes them somewhat or very well.</b></div>
<br />
<a href="http://publicreligion.org/research/2012/04/millennial-values-survey-2012/">http://publicreligion.org/research/2012/04/millennial-values-survey-2012/</a><br />

<br />
So, in the interests of presenting a more realistic image of the pro-life movement, I've put together an on-line "resource list" for and about pro-life in all faiths. This list can be helpful to share with friends of all faiths or friends without faith. <br />
<br />
Consider "friending" the FB pages (just click the FB links below and click "like.")<br />

These are awesome pages to refer people to when they seem to have bought in to the pro-choice stereotype that all pro-lifers are Christian or all pro-lifers are "right wing." <b>The pro-life position has nothing to do with politics or religion.</b><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At the pro-life conference this year, I attended a really good session on pro-life apologetics. The basic gist of how to be a good apologist is this: pro-choice people want to talk about anything and everything except for abortion itself. They want to talk about things like "back alley abortions," saving the life of a mother (which makes up under 1% of all abortions,) problems of poverty in our society, how other people overlook problems of poverty, a woman's choice, a woman's body and on and on.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Pro-choice people do NOT want to talk about the child itself being killed.</b> They will spin the conversation every which-way they can to avoid this painful reality. That is why your main points need to be about things like the <b>the humanity of the child in the womb, the uniqueness of human life, the child's ability to feel pain and the ethical issue of ending an innocent human life.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here are some helpful websites to review:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
(1) This well presented website offers succinct and logical "talking points" for every situation. For example, fact #12 details how, before Roe v Wade, only 10% of women had "back alley" abortions. The argument that abortion ban would increase death from "back alley" abortion ignores that there is no evidence that abortion is any less dangerous today but more importantly,<b> it leaves out the issue of the</b> <b>ethics of taking a human life completely.</b> Review this page. It's filled with clear logic to counter common arguments.</div>

<a href="http://www.abortionfacts.com/">http://www.abortionfacts.com/</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
(2) What about when people want to talk about how young mothers will "ruin their lives" if they give birth? That's a hard position to argue without knowing the statistics of how abortion creates a greater number of emotional, physical and societal problems than giving birth at a young age. You need to know that suicide risk is 6 times higher with teens that have abortions and that they are twice as likely than their peers to use drugs.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://theunchoice.com/pdf/OnePageFactSheets/TeensSheet1.pdf">http://theunchoice.com/pdf/OnePageFactSheets/TeensSheet1.pdf</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Review these sites and you will feel more secure when faced with pro-choice arguments, but most importantly, a<b>lways steer the conversation to the undeniable fact that abortion is taking an innocent human life- no ifs, ands or buts.</b></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
This moving quote from our new archbishop strongly encourages us to take action for life. Each human life conceived is<b> <span style="color: red;">irreplaceable</span>- </b>there will never be another you or me<b> </b>and each human life deserves the chance to live just like you and me<b>. </b> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Each life should be <span style="color: red;"><b>profoundly</b> </span><b><span style="color: red;">respected and protected</span>- </b>to give God the honor he deserves for creating us and to cherish the gift of children.<b> </b></div>
<br />
<span style="color: red;"><b>Regardless of cost-</b></span><br />
<b>Nothing</b> is too much for this <b>profoundly important cause- to respect and protect human life.</b><br />
